Join Edge's Core Group: Call for Expressions of Interest!

Edge Fund is looking to expand its Core Group and you can be part of it!

Edge Fund is a Participatory Grant-Making organisation, currently formed by an Organiser acting as Staff member and three members of the Core Group, acting in the roles of trustees or board members (responsible for strategic planning, fundraising and meeting the responsibilities of being the employer of permanent and temporary staff).

At Edge we have identified the need to expand our Core Group with two roles dedicated specifically to improving our work in Fundraising and Communications.

We are inviting current Edge Fund members (Edge current and past grantees) to submit their expressions of interest to join the Core Group and support us with strategic planning in these two areas.

As we understand that knowledge of the philanthropic sector and fundraising at large scale may not be among the skills of grassroots organisers we are inviting those Edge supporters with experience in this aspect of organisational work to send their expressions of interest for this specific role.

We encourage applications from members from ethnic minorities, racialised communities and global majority folks!

General overview:

Core Group members are responsible for working together to guarantee that Edge Fund lives up to its values, protects the wellbeing of its members and manages funds in transparent ways.

We aim to recruit Core Group members who would lead on different aspects of our collective work while contributing to the overall discussion on the organisation’s governability. New Core Group members will receive a detailed induction into our model.

We are currently seeking for organisers  with lived experience in the areas of our work to contribute in developing and strengthening our work in fundraising and in communications.

Board positions tend to consist in voluntary work. We however aim to recruit organisers with lived experience in areas of their work. We understand most organisers already do voluntary or unpaid work as part of their vital campaigning and on top of their activities as workers, carers, students, etc. For this reason we are introducing an hourly compensation that the selected candidates can opt for if they are not in the position to volunteer hours of work.

We estimate the successful candidates will collaborate with a maximum of 8-12 monthly hours of work distributed in 2 fortnightly meetings and additional time to read, draft and monitor proposals as well as joining meetings with external actors. The monthly compensation would be up to £170-240.00. The role would be taken as a freelancer. Core Group members are invited to serve at EF for one or two periods of two years, as the group has to renew itself. We are open to review the number of hours that can be taken up if a member with relevant experience cannot commit to the number of hours expected. The work is done online mainly with two to three in-person meetings during the year.

Both roles will serve to develop strategies that must be co-implemented with Edge Fund’s staff, for which we are seeking for people with:

  • Good communications skills in written and verbal form.
  • Understanding of collaborative work.
  • Capable of multitasking and keeping deadlines and priorities clear, as this role will be likely combined by the successful candidates with their own work and campaigning.
  • For the role with a focus on communications we are looking additionally for folks who are Edge members:
    • Active organisers in a grassroots group supported by Edge Fund.
    • Having lived experience or expertise in the areas of the work we support and you campaign for.

About the roles:

- Communications

We seek for a person with experience in designing successful communication plans or campaigns destined to reach wide audiences, to promote our work, raise funds and promote the work of Edge members.

- Fundraising

We seek for a person with experience in designing successful fundraising plans or campaigns, writing grant applications, and proven knowledge of the philanthropic sector in the UK with the aim of advising Edge on its fundraising strategy and plan. As we recognise these skills may not necessarily be found among grassroots organisers, we will consider non-Edge Fund members for this role, in which case we will invite the candidate to take the role on a voluntary basis.
